Our educational system needs urgent redemption

Saturday PUNCH, 8 May 2010
Education in Nigeria needs a “medical check up”. In the past years there have been lots of strike at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. The Federal Government reluctantly called on Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State to settle the grievances of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, but NASU also embarked on a nationwide strike.
One reason the nation has not got to the Promise Land is that issues that ought to be given priority attention are not so treated. We tend to focus out attention on less important things. The fact is that the youths who are being looked upon to rescue the nation are turning out as half-baked graduates from an unstable educational system. The acting president and his cabinet should look into these salient issues.
